Position Summary

Trout Unlimited is looking for a full time Project Manager to work with landowners, agencies and other organizations to develop restoration projects in the Yakima Basin. The project manager will be responsible for working cooperatively with partners in restoration to develop and implement projects. This work will focus on restoration activities that improve habitat for ESA listed species and support the Yakima Basin Implementation Plan. The position requires an individual who is self-motivated, action oriented, works well with diverse personalities, and has hopeful ideals about accomplishing and finishing great work.

Skills relating to riverine restoration, real estate and water right transactions, hydrology, working agriculture, and project management are preferred in this position. The Project Manager will support Trout Unlimited’s presence as a leader in working on project oriented streamflow and habitat restoration. This position will be based out of Ellensburg, Washington.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop restoration projects.
  • Partner with landowners and conservation partners to prioritize, fund and implement projects that improve stream flows and fish habitat.
  • Facilitate, coordinate and manage construction projects.
  • Work with supervisor and other staff on program strategies and project priorities.
  • Clear and frequent communications on work efforts and project status to partners and agencies.
  • Maintain project files Track budget, reporting deadlines and meet deliverables for projects and grants portfolios and databases.
  • Ensure close coordination with agencies, funders and others
  • Collect and manage ecological and hydrological data.
  • Pre and post project monitoring to determine effectiveness.
  • Attend, participate, and represent Trout Unlimited in meetings relevant to the organization’s mission

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience. Experience with restoration techniques, water use and irrigated agriculture and complex multi-party negotiations is essential.
  • Knowledge of natural resources, biology, hydrology, and watershed processes.
  • Project and grant management skills required.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work constructively with a wide range of partners and personalities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as first rate research and analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving abilities. The job requires the ability to prioritize workload, to be highly motivated and self-directed.
  • A passion for fisheries conservation and for protecting and restoring rivers and streams.
  • Previous experience with media, outreach, and/or legal research is desirable.
  • Ability to travel, periodically overnight.
